Job Description
A multi-entity waste and recycling company is seeking a hands-on and strategic Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations. This role will manage all aspects of accounting, support major system transitions, lead a small team, and serve as a key partner to the CFO and leadership. The ideal candidate is a proactive financial leader who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-growing environment and is looking to step into a CFO-track role in the next few years.
Salary Range: $100,000 – $160,000 / year DOE
Financial Controller Responsibilities:
- Manage accounting functions across multiple locations and legal entities
- Oversee general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and monthly/annual close
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and internal reports
- Collaborate with CFO on financial strategy, annual budgets, and forecasting
- Support and supervise AP/AR staff; mentor and develop team performance
- Lead system transition from Great Plains to Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Monitor cash flow, track KPIs, and provide financial insight to senior leadership
- Ensure tax compliance and partner with external accountants on filings and audits
- Maintain strong internal controls and uphold company financial policies
Financial Controller Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum 5+ years in accounting with 3+ years in a leadership/management role
- Experience managing accounting for multi-entity organizations
- Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Outlook, and Excel
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial compliance standards
- Must be onsite full-time and able to travel locally between locations during onboarding
- Experience in waste management or recycling industries is a plus
- CPA or MBA preferred
- Familiarity with TMW or other fleet/field service software
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with operations and field teams
