Job Description

A mission-driven nonprofit is seeking a Payroll and Accounts Payable Specialist to support their finance team in managing multi-cycle payroll and vendor payments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a detail-oriented environment and enjoys working in a mission-driven nonprofit setting. The specialist will oversee multiple payroll cycles, process vendor payments, and support other day-to-day accounting functions. They are looking for a team player with strong organizational skills, good judgment, and a proactive mindset. This role is a great fit for someone who is confident in payroll and AP, comfortable with systems like Excel and QuickBooks, and eager to grow within a stable and supportive organization.

Salary Range: $60,000 / year DOE

Payroll and Accounts Payable Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll for multiple cycles across salaried staff and contractors using UKG and QuickBooks
  • Manage accounts payable; process and pay vendor invoices
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, verify pay rates, and troubleshoot discrepancies
  • Maintain employee records and support compliance with payroll policies
  • Reconcile payroll and AP accounts and support month-end processes
  • Collaborate with the Junior Accountant and CFO on daily and project-based tasks
  • Support improvements to systems and processes as the department evolves

Payroll and Accounts Payable Specialist Requirements:

  • 3–5+ years of payroll and accounts payable experience
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Bachelor’s is preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or UKG is a plus
  • Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while being a collaborative team member
  • Comfortable working onsite 3–4 days/week
