Job Description

A full-service, mid-size law firm based in Los Angeles is seeking a Senior Associate or Junior Partner to join its Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically strong and strategically minded attorney to lead sophisticated client matters for a range of corporate clients, executives, and high-net-worth individuals.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience advising companies and senior executives on the design, compliance, and negotiation of executive compensation and employee benefits arrangements. The role will involve direct client interaction, complex transactional work, and the opportunity to lead and grow within a collaborative, forward-thinking firm known for its people-first culture.

Salary Range: $265,000 – $285,000 / year DOE

Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Attorney Responsibilities:

  • Advise employers and executives on executive compensation and employee benefit plans in compliance with ERISA, Section 409A, and related tax and labor laws
  • Draft and negotiate employment agreements, equity compensation arrangements, incentive plans, severance and retention packages
  • Lead compensation and benefits aspects of M&A transactions, restructurings, financings, and bankruptcies
  • Counsel compensation committees on governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and disclosure obligations
  • Analyze and provide strategic guidance on qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation, and health & welfare benefits compliance
  • Coordinate with internal and external counsel, accountants, consultants, and regulators as needed
  • Participate in firm citizenship activities including mentorship, business development, and firm culture initiatives

Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Attorney Requirements:

  • J.D. from a top-tier law school with strong academic credentials
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in executive compensation and employee benefits (for Sr. Associate); 10+ years preferred for Junior Partner
  • Licensed to practice law in California
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, Section 409A, 280G, and equity-based compensation structures
  • Proven experience supporting transactional deals and guiding corporate clients through benefits-related due diligence
  • Ability to manage complex matters independently and supervise junior attorneys
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service and ability to build trusted relationships
  • A portable book of business is preferred but not required for Sr. Associate; minimum $750K required for Junior Partner consideration
