Job Description
A trusted name in truck and bus sales and service is seeking an experienced and dependable Diesel Technician to join their team at their Missoula, MT location. In this role, you’ll be responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and machinery including buses, trucks, and heavy equipment. You’ll work alongside a laid-back, collaborative crew in a family-owned environment that values quality work, team camaraderie, and long-term employee satisfaction. This role is ideal for a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in their craft, follows safety protocols, and thrives in a fast-paced shop setting.
Diesel Technician Responsibilities:
- Build and assemble diesel vehicles and machinery according to specifications
- Inspect engines, transmissions, and key systems for defects or wear
- Perform diagnostics and identify mechanical or performance issues
- Execute timely and effective repairs
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance
- Repair or rebuild hydraulic, fuel, brake, and electrical systems
- Replace worn-out components
- Calibrate steering, suspension, and wheel alignments
- Use tools, fabrication equipment, and welding to complete repairs as needed
- Maintain accurate records of diagnostics, repairs, and parts used
- Follow all OSHA, environmental, and internal safety protocols
- Occasionally assist with on-site service calls
Diesel Technician Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic
- Proven knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and vehicle components
- Strong manual dexterity and experience using diagnostic and hand tools
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, instructions, and service manuals
- Physically fit with stamina to stand, move, and work hands-on for extended periods
- Commitment to safety and teamwork in a shop environment
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Completion of a diesel tech program or vocational certification is a plus
- ASE Certification a strong plus
- Experience with engines or drivetrains highly preferred
- OSHA certified is preferred
