Job Description

A boutique litigation firm in San Diego, CA is seeking a Toxic Tort Associate to join its team. This role focuses on managing toxic tort and asbestos litigation, along with supporting high-end personal injury, products liability, premises liability, and commercial business litigation cases. Key responsibilities include taking and defending expert and witness depositions, drafting motions and discovery documents, developing client relationships, and preparing cases for trial. The firm is looking for a motivated, organized, and proactive attorney who can thrive in a lively, collaborative environment and is driven to move matters forward efficiently.

Salary Range: $130,000 – $220,000 / year DOE

Toxic Tort Associate Responsibilities: 

  • Manage toxic tort and asbestos litigation cases
  • Support general negligence, products liability, premises liability, and commercial business litigation matters
  • Take and defend expert and witness depositions
  • Draft original motions and litigation-related documents for complex cases
  • Draft discovery requests and responses
  • Develop and maintain client relationships through strong oral and written communication
  • Prepare for trial including drafting motions in limine, exhibit lists, and witness lists
  • Work closely with partners, senior associates, and support staff as part of a case team
  • Meet or exceed 1900 billable hours annually
  • Utilize MS Office and firm systems for case management

Toxic Tort Associate Requirements: 

  • 2+ years of experience in asbestos or toxic tort litigation
  • Bar admission in California and a Juris Doctor
  • Experience handling cases from inception to resolution
  • Defense-side litigation experience strongly preferred
  • Billable work experience required
  • Superior written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Education from a well-regarded law school
  • Self-motivated with a high level of energy and determination
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload
