Job Description

Position Title: Engineering Technician

When a machine goes down on this production floor, the team calls one person first. The Engineering Technician is that person: a mechanic who keeps the plant running and then designs the maintenance program that keeps the same breakdowns from recurring. The work includes finding lasting fixes for aging equipment, helping select and set up new machinery, and sitting at the table when the plant decides what to buy next. Previous holders of this position weighed in on major purchases, designed the fix, and watched it go to work on the floor.

The plant is growing, replacing older machines, and bringing more technology onto the shop floor, including digital scheduling, inventory, and workflow tools. It is a small operation where people wear several hats, and many team members have been there for more than 15 years. The role is hands-on, and it also covers vendor relationships, maintenance planning, and process improvement. The company intends to advance the right person, possibly into plant manager, and may add shift-manager responsibilities along the way.

Salary Range: $35 – $45 / Hour DOE

Plus an annual bonus that grows with tenure. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours.

Engineering Technician Responsibilities

  • Keep the plant’s production machinery running through hands-on setup, troubleshooting, and repair, including the automatic labeling equipment
  • Serve as the first point of contact on the floor when equipment is not working
  • Design and run the plant’s maintenance program, including preventive maintenance schedules
  • Identify lasting fixes for aging machines so recurring breakdowns no longer require repeated call-outs
  • Help select, set up, and maintain new equipment as the plant replaces older machinery, and contribute to major equipment purchasing decisions
  • Schedule maintenance, manage parts inventory, and source parts and fabrication work from vendors and machine shops
  • Act as the main contact for outside electricians and motor repair vendors, auditing their work and performing basic electrical and motor troubleshooting
  • Perform off-hours maintenance when production schedules require it, paid as overtime
  • Support the adoption of digital scheduling, inventory, and workflow tools to improve plant efficiency
  • Take on shift-manager type responsibilities as the role develops

Engineering Technician Requirements

  • At least three years in a similar mechanic or maintenance role
  • Strong mechanical skills, as the role is primarily mechanical
  • Comfort working hands-on with production equipment while also managing vendors and maintenance planning
  • Basic electrical and motor troubleshooting ability, sufficient to understand and audit the work of outside electricians, is preferred
  • A certification to work on electrical equipment is preferred
  • A two-year degree is preferred
  • Spanish language skills are preferred

Benefits

  • Annual bonus that grows with tenure
  • Overtime paid at time and a half after 40 hours
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Company-sponsored training, professional certifications, and continuing education

Mechanics who want a broader role than the same repairs for slightly more pay, and who are ready to shape how a growing plant maintains and upgrades its equipment, should apply today.
