Job Description
Position Title: Fuel System Technician
Hospital emergency fuel systems must work on the day the grid fails, and the people who build and commission them carry that responsibility. This Fuel System Technician opportunity places hands-on tradespeople on critical-facility projects, roughly 75 to 80 percent hospitals and 20 percent data centers, including a large diesel tank farm that feeds three hospitals. The work combines pipe fitting, electrical conduit and wiring, and the commissioning of specialized fuel monitoring and control equipment. Professionals who are strong in one construction discipline are welcome, because the employer invests in training the others.
The team is family-oriented and values long tenure, with several technicians having served more than 20 years. New hires work alongside an experienced team lead, and nobody is placed on a project alone at the start. Assignment schedules are posted in a company app and updated daily, and crews travel home on weekends even when working away. Two openings are available, and San Diego is the preferred home base for current projects. The company supports two profiles under this search, a less technical Fuel System Installer entry point and an ICC-certified technician track, so candidates can enter at the level that matches their experience.
Salary Range: $30.00 – $45.00 / Hour DOE
Fuel System Technician Responsibilities
- Install above-ground and below-ground diesel fuel systems, including pipe fitting, electrical conduit and wiring, fiberglass wet layup or entry boots, and tank devices
- Start up and commission Franklin and Veeder-Root fuel monitoring consoles and PLC fuel controls
- Troubleshoot alarms, sensors, monitoring equipment, and fuel-system control operation
- Perform occasional maintenance and service work, along with annual monitoring certifications on new and existing projects
- Support installers and technicians during startup and commissioning, and learn additional disciplines through paid training
- Follow strict material identification and approval procedures on hospital projects, using hard-copy drawings and documenting work accurately
- Communicate with the office, customers, and inspectors, and complete field and time reports in line with construction-site procedures
- Pick up materials from the warehouse or parts suppliers and handle inventory documentation as needed
- Travel within California for assignments, with hotels arranged for multi-day jobs
Fuel System Technician Requirements
- Hands-on installation or technical trade capability, with at least 2 years of installation experience in plumbing, electrical conduit and wire, mechanical installation, or comparable construction for the installer profile

- For the technician profile, at least 1 year of fuel-system experience and an ICC Service Technician or ICC UST Installer certification, with consideration given to strong mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and controls troubleshooters who will obtain ICC certification
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with a field team
- Willingness to travel within California
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- High school diploma or GED
- Current residence in Southern California is preferred, but strong relocation candidates from other regions will be considered.

- Direct fuel-system installation or service experience, including gas-station fuel systems, is preferred
- Familiarity with hospital HCAI compliance is preferred
Benefits
- Overtime opportunities and prevailing-wage assignments that can raise total earnings above the base hourly rate
- Signing bonus paid after 90 days of service, plus a discretionary profit-sharing bonus pool after one year
- Medical and dental coverage, an HSA plan, and a 401(k) with company match
- Paid vacation, sick days, and holidays
- Company-paid certifications and training, along with company-provided tools and phone
- Paid travel expenses, including hotels and a per diem when traveling, and a company truck and fuel card for eligible employees
