Job Description
Position Title: HR Manager
A well-established San Diego hospitality and entertainment company is seeking an experienced HR Manager to oversee human resources operations, payroll administration, employee relations, benefits management, and regulatory compliance. This role will manage biweekly payroll, lead onboarding and training initiatives, coordinate open enrollment, oversee performance reviews, and partner with leadership to maintain a productive, compliant, and positive workplace.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of human resources and payroll experience, strong knowledge of employment regulations, and the confidence to navigate complex employee relations matters with professionalism and sound judgment. Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000 / annually, DOE
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily HR operations, including employee relations, onboarding, offboarding, training, and performance management
- Process and reconcile biweekly payroll for a workforce of approximately 160 employees, ensuring accurate timekeeping, pay rates, tips, and gratuities
- Administer employee benefits programs, coordinate annual open enrollment and maintain accurate employee records
- Manage employee grievances, workplace investigations and disciplinary matters while ensuring consistent policy enforcement and regulatory compliance
- Partner with department managers and executive leadership to address workforce needs, resolve employee concerns, and support organizational goals
- Coordinate new hire orientations, employee training programs, performance evaluations, and ongoing HR initiatives
- Support recruitment efforts, review applications, and collaborate with hiring managers to identify qualified candidates
- Maintain compliance with federal and California employment laws, wage and hour regulations, and internal HR policies
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in human resources and payroll administration, including hands-on experience managing benefits and open enrollment
- Strong understanding of employment laws, HR compliance, employee relations, and payroll regulations
- Experience processing payroll through ADP or a comparable payroll platform
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage unexpected employee matters
- Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the confidence to handle difficult conversations while maintaining professional boundaries
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, enforce company policies, and navigate diverse personalities with professionalism and discretion
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Professional HR certification preferred
