Position Title: CNC Machinist

This role seeks a qualified Lead Set-Up Machinist to thrive in a small shop environment. The position offers the opportunity to impact production through hands-on CNC machine setup and operation. Candidates will be expected to adapt quickly to varying production needs while ensuring quality and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in CNC machining and demonstrate reliability and accountability on the shop floor. This position emphasizes teamwork and leadership, providing a chance to mentor operators and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Salary Range: $62,400 – $83,200

CNC Machinist Responsibilities:

  • Perform machine setups, tool changes, and job changeovers
  • Load, adjust, and modify existing CNC programs as needed
  • Run production when required, not just setups
  • Ensure parts are produced accurately and on time
  • Work with a wide mix of materials, including steel, aluminum, brass, and plastics
  • Oversee and assist machine operators during shifts
  • Provide hands-on guidance and troubleshooting support
  • Help train employees on machining procedures, safety practices, and company policies
  • Verify proper measuring equipment is being used and inspect parts
  • Track defects and dispose of non-conforming parts per policy
  • Enforce and contribute to safety standards, quality control, and a clean shop environment

CNC Machinist Requirements:

  • CNC machining experience (minimum 5 years)
  • Hands-on CNC machine setup experience including tooling, offsets, fixtures, and job changeovers
  • Experience modifying existing CNC programs
  • Direct experience on similar machine types
  • Ability to run production and step into production after setup
  • Strong general CNC machining background with multi-axis CNC experience preferred
  • Quality and inspection competence, including the use of measuring tools
  • Shop floor reliability and accountability with accurate time tracking
  • Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and shop standards
  • Comfort in a small-shop, flexible role
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Experience with specific machines such as Haas, Okuma, Yasnac, and Tsugami is preferred
  • CAM software exposure, particularly FeatureCAM, is preferred
  • Programming background, especially collaborating with engineering and modifying complex programs, is preferred
  • Leadership or mentorship experience is preferred
  • Experience in high-mix, low-to-medium volume environments is preferred
  • Flexibility in schedule is preferred
  • Long-tenure mindset is preferred
