Job Description
Position Title: Preconstruction Estimator
The Preconstruction Estimator plays a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely cost estimates for pre-engineered metal building and structural steel projects. This position is essential in producing estimates for projects valued between $50,000 and $10 million, typically within a 2-3 day turnaround. The estimator will be responsible for detailed takeoffs, comprehensive project cost models, and vendor pricing coordination. Collaborating closely with sales, engineering, and preconstruction leadership, this role aims to enhance estimating accuracy and improve bid efficiency in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will thrive under pressure and contribute to the company’s growth and success.
Preconstruction Estimator Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed takeoffs and quantity analysis for PEMB and structural systems
- Develop complete cost estimates, including materials, labor, and buyout components
- Utilize estimating and design software
- Build and maintain accurate cost models and assumptions
- Solicit and analyze vendor quotes for third-party materials
- Level and compare vendor pricing for accuracy and completeness
- Assemble complete and professional proposal packages
- Support the sales team in preparing proposals for submission
Preconstruction Estimator Requirements:
- Must have 3+ years of experience as an estimator with Pre-Engineered Metal Building or Structural Steel Buildings
- Must have experience with bids around the $200-600K range or higher
- Must have proven success of accuracy and high approval rates from submitted bids
- Perform full quantity takeoffs independently
- Build full job cost: labor + material + buyout + overhead
- Experience in fast-turn preconstruction environments
- Dependable and reliable personality
- Easy to work with and flexible to changes
- Motivated with strong career growth goals
- Construction degree is preferred
