Job Description
Position Title: Project Accountant
The Project Accountant plays a vital role in managing the financial, accounting, and compliance aspects of multifamily construction projects for a dynamic builder and developer. This position serves as a crucial link between operations and finance, ensuring projects remain within budget while managing subcontractor payments and processing developer or investor draws in a timely manner. The role demands a high level of attention to detail and organization, as it involves juggling multiple projects and meeting stringent deadlines. The successful candidate will contribute to the financial efficiency of the organization and support the overall growth of the company. Collaboration with project managers and adherence to accounting standards are essential components of this position.
Salary Range: $110,000 – $120,000 / Year DOE
Project Accountant Responsibilities:
- Manage project billing and journal entries
- Compile draw packages for construction financing
- Prepare and examine accounting records, financial statements, and reports
- Analyze reporting for business operations and budgets
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with standards
- Develop processes to enhance financial efficiency
- Report findings and analyses to management
- Prepare construction loan draws
- Oversee job costing and overhead allocations
- Handle intra-company transactions and journal entries
- Maintain the General Ledger, including AR, AP, cash management, and compliance
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Assist in annual accounting audits and coordinate with external CPAs
- Manage accounting for various projects and coordinate with project managers regarding invoice approvals
Project Accountant Requirements:
- Experience with Sage 300 CRE
- Proficiency in Textura for project billings
- Experience with Procore
- Knowledge of AIA billing
- 3 to 10 years of accounting experience in a general contractor or subcontractor environment
- Fundamental understanding of GAAP
- Ability to understand journal entries, debits, and credits
- Associate’s degree or higher in accounting or finance
- Proficient in QuickBooks
- Experience with loan draws and pencil draws
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Experience with daily and monthly bank reconciliations
- Technical proficiency is required
- Flexibility in work schedule is preferred
