Job Description

The Tool & Fixture Designer position is a senior-level role focused on delivering high-quality tool designs using Cimatron. This role supports the increasing demand for tooling by developing conceptual layouts, die line splits, and complete tool designs. It involves close collaboration with engineering and NPI teams, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently. The position is fully remote, with occasional onsite visits, and operates during standard business hours. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who possess strong design engineering fundamentals and can mentor mid-level designers effectively.

Tool & Fixture Designer Responsibilities:

  • Design new tools, fixtures, and die line splits in Cimatron, advancing projects from concept to full design review
  • Collaborate with engineering, NPI, and the tooling program manager through various communication methods to clarify requirements and resolve design questions
  • Prepare conceptual layouts to assist in quoting and project planning
  • Participate in twice-weekly engineering meetings to provide updates and address design challenges
  • Revise designs based on feedback, finalize models, and hand off completed work to CNC/programming teams
  • Manage multiple active projects, ensuring designs progress through concept review, design review, and final approval

Tool & Fixture Designer Requirements:

  • High-level Cimatron (Symmetron) expertise is essential
  • At least 5 years of tool and fixture design experience is required
  • Ability to perform full conceptual and detailed tool design, including die line splits and design-for-manufacturing considerations
  • Strong design engineering fundamentals are necessary
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively, particularly in a remote setting
  • Willingness to collaborate with engineering, NPI, and tooling teams, participating in engineering meetings
  • Injection molding tool design experience is beneficial but not mandatory
  • A broader plastics background or familiarity with resin behavior is advantageous preferred
  • Experience mentoring or training junior designers, especially in Cimatron, is preferred
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks is helpful for legacy work, preferred
  • Experience working in a remote or distributed engineering environment is a plus
  • Strong understanding of manufacturability and design-for-production principles is desirable
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal oversight is preferred
  • Comfort in participating in customer-facing design reviews when necessary preferred
