A top-tier, rapidly expanding San Diego-based insurance brokerage is hiring a Staff Accountant II to join its Producer Payables team, the group responsible for making sure more than 1,000 sales producers and sub-brokers are paid accurately and on time. You will work deep in the general ledger, post journal entries, reconcile commission accounts, analyze P&L impacts, and partner directly with producers to resolve questions. This role blends real accounting with high-volume data, business contracts, and ongoing process improvement. They are looking for a sharp, driven accountant who understands the GL, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and isn’t afraid to communicate with high-powered sales teams.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $75,000 / Year DOE

Staff Accountant II Responsibilities:

  • Maintain general ledger and balance sheet accounts related to producer and sub-broker commissions
  • Post journal entries, perform reconciliations, and support the month-end close
  • Process and analyze bi-weekly commission payments for ~1,000 producers
  • Review employment agreements and commission plan for accurate payouts
  • Perform commission expense analysis and P&L reporting
  • Manipulate and analyze large datasets in Excel
  • Support audits and financial accuracy related to producer payables
  • Partner with producers to answer commission questions and resolve discrepancies
  • Identify process improvements and help automate workflows
  • Use Epic and Alliant’s proprietary systems to manage commission accounting

Staff Accountant II Requirements:

  • 1-2+ years of accounting experience with exposure to GL, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and SUMIF
  • Strong understanding of debits, credits, balance sheets, and month-end close
  • Professional, confident communication skills
  • Ability to work with demanding stakeholders in a fast-moving environment
