A fast-growing, mission-driven consulting firm is hiring a Senior Accountant with deep payroll experience to support its expanding financial operations. This role sits at the center of the business, owning payroll accounting, strengthening controls, and partnering cross-functionally to keep everything running clean, compliant, and on time. The right person is detail-driven, calm under pressure, and energized by a collaborative, high-trust environment where accountability and initiative matter.

Salary Range: $105,000 – $120,000 / Year DOE

Senior Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Own payroll accounting, ensuring accurate payroll entries in the general ledger
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries and reconcile wages, benefits, taxes, and accruals during month-end close
  • Partner closely with HR and payroll providers to resolve discrepancies and timing differences
  • Support payroll-related audits including 401(k) and benefit plan audits with strong documentation and controls
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state payroll and employment tax regulations
  • Review and reconcile state and local payroll tax filings, payments, and notices
  • Assist with new state registrations, agency correspondence, and compliance research
  • Support year-end payroll processes including W-2 preparation and filings
  • Own additional month-end close activities including prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, and balance sheet/P&L reconciliations
  • Investigate and resolve variances in compliance with GAAP and internal policies
  • Support client invoicing, cash flow forecasting, and working capital analysis
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and controls
  • Work independently while staying deeply connected to the team

Senior Accountant Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong payroll exposure
  • Hands-on experience with payroll reconciliations and multi-state payroll tax compliance
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and month-end close
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; payroll systems experience required
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities without losing precision
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Unanet GovCon ERP experience preferred
  • Federal contractor and professional services/consulting experience a plus
