Job Description
Join a dynamic team dedicated to delivering exceptional procurement services in the construction industry. The Purchasing Manager will play a vital role in supporting the procurement of electrical materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for multiple projects. This position involves collaboration with project managers, estimators, warehouse staff, and field teams to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing. The ideal candidate will also have opportunities for early-stage leadership and mentoring of junior staff, contributing to the growth and success of the organization.
Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 / Year DOE
Purchasing Manager Responsibilities:
- Review project drawings, material lists, and specs to determine purchasing needs
- Prepare, issue, and track purchase orders (POs) for conduit, wire, panelboards, gear, lighting, etc.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors, balancing cost, quality, and delivery time
- Monitor lead times, track orders, and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery
- Handle order discrepancies: damaged goods, wrong quantities, substitutions
- Build and maintain relationships with distributors, manufacturers, and specialty suppliers
- Assist in supplier performance assessments and help develop preferred vendor lists
- Coordinate returns, RMAs, credits, and warranty claims
- Work with project and field teams to align deliveries with jobsite staging and schedule
- Provide updated pricing and lead-time info to estimating and project teams
- Maintain accurate purchasing documentation: POs, submittals, invoices, delivery receipts
- Use ERP/project management systems (e.g., Procore, Spectrum, Viewpoint) for purchasing workflows
- Monitor inventory levels with warehouse to minimize shortages or excess
- Help improve procurement processes and contribute to cost-saving initiatives
- Provide guidance to purchasing coordinators or assistants, when needed
Purchasing Manager Requirements:
- 2–5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement in construction (GC with a heavy focus on electrical) or electrical contracting
- Knowledge of electrical construction materials and supply-chain dynamics (commercial much preferred over residential)
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specs, and BOMs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with an ERP or procurement system
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
