Job Description
This is a hands-on operations role in a live energy facility where reliability, safety, and problem-solving matter every day. The fastest-growing renewable natural gas producer in the country is hiring an Operations Technician to support the day-to-day monitoring, maintenance, and safe operation of a landfill gas-to-energy facility in Little Plymouth, VA. This technician will make regular rounds inside and outside the plant, monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot issues in real time, log operational data, and support preventive maintenance on critical mechanical and electrical systems. It’s a physical, technical role for someone who likes being in the field, thinking on their feet, and keeping complex systems running. They are looking for a mechanically inclined, safety-driven technician who shows up, takes ownership, and wants to build a long-term career in energy operations.
Operations Technician Responsibilities:
- Monitor and operate the landfill gas-to-energy plant during assigned shifts in compliance with SOPs, safety, and environmental standards
- Conduct regular rounds inside the facility and outdoors, inspecting equipment such as engines, tank farms, cooling towers, blowers, radiators, and control systems
- Record and trend operational data including temperatures, pressures, fluid levels, and system performance
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues when units trip offline or operate outside normal parameters
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs using hand tools and testing equipment
- Test and troubleshoot electrical systems and wiring up to 480 volts using meters and diagnostic tools
- Operate and interact with SCADA, PLC, and HMI systems to monitor and adjust plant operations
- Escalate complex issues to supervisors or contractors when appropriate
- Maintain clean, organized workspaces including plant buildings, control rooms, and grounds
- Complete daily logs, reports, and maintenance documentation
- Assist with maintenance planning, outages, and parts procurement
- Respond to rotating on-call responsibilities, callouts, and overtime as required
- Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and hazardous waste handling
Operations Technician Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of experience in industrial maintenance, electrical, electronics, chemical, power plant, or related operations
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using basic hand tools
- Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and P&IDs
- Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in an industrial environment
- Basic computer skills for logging data and monitoring systems
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Willingness to complete a 3-month training program on specialized plant systems
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check, physical, hearing test, and DOT drug testing
- Flexibility to work a rotating schedule: 10 days on / 4 days off, 7:00 am–3:00 pm, plus rotating on-call
- Landfill gas, RNG, power plant, or industrial gas operations preferred
- Electrical or electronics background preferred
- SCADA, PLC, or process control systems exposure preferred
- Industrial equipment maintenance preferred
- Technical certifications or formal trade training preferred
Benefits:
- Overtime built into schedule
- Quarterly Momentum Bonus
- 401(k) with company match
- Health Insurance
- 120 Hours of PTO
- Biweekly pay
- Uniforms, PPE, and safety gear supplied
- Relocation assistance or potential sign-on bonus available
This role is ideal for someone who values stability, hands-on work, and learning a specialized operation that few technicians ever get exposure to. If you want steady overtime, strong benefits, real training, and a path to higher operator levels and leadership, this is the opportunity to step in and build something long-term. Apply now! #LI-IR1
