Job Description

A precision aerospace machine shop is hiring a senior-leaning CNC Machinist to strengthen and stabilize its turning department in Peekskill, NY. This role goes far beyond running parts. You’ll own complex setups, troubleshoot issues in real time, respond to mid-production changes, and help keep precision work moving when schedules shift. The right person will bring strong machining fundamentals, comfort with tight tolerances, and the confidence to step into a lead-type role as the department grows. This is hands-on, problem-solving work where initiative and accountability matter. They’re looking for a self-starter. A seasoned machinist who thrives in precision aerospace work, takes ownership of problems, and wants to grow into leadership rather than stay in “operator mode.”

Salary: $45.00 / Hour

CNC Machinist Responsibilities:

  • Set up and run CNC lathes and mills with a strong focus on the turning department
  • Diagnosing and resolving setup issues, production inconsistencies, and mid-run changes
  • Work in a high-mix, low-volume aerospace environment with tight tolerances
  • Troubleshoot machine challenges independently and keep jobs moving efficiently
  • Interpret prints, specs, and quality requirements with precision
  • Collaborate with leads, operations, and quality to maintain workflow and standards
  • Mentor or guide other machinists as experience and leadership allow
  • Contribute ideas to improve processes, consistency, and shop performance

CNC Machinist Requirements:

  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a production environment
  • Strong experience with lathes and turning operations
  • Aerospace or high-precision machining background strongly preferred
  • Experience with Mazak machines is highly preferred
  • Familiar with Mazak, Nakamura-Tome, Emco/Fanuc, and/or gear grinding equipment
  • Solid machining fundamentals: setup, tooling, feeds and speeds, problem diagnosis
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take responsibility in a fast-moving shop
  • Programming experience is a plus, but not required

Benefits:

  • Typical schedule: 5×10s with built-in overtime
  • Performance-based bonuses typically 2–3 weeks’ gross pay
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Company-paid life insurance and STD/LTD
  • PTO days + 5 NY sick days
  • Climate-controlled shop, casual dress, stable and low-drama environment
  • Growth path into lead or department-level roles for the right person

This is a shop for machinists who want interesting work, steady hours, strong pay, and the chance to make a real impact. If you take pride in precision, ownership, and continuous improvement, this role will reward you. Apply now! #LI-CM1
