A well-established Michigan law firm with more than 70 years of experience representing creditors, trustees, and financial institutions across the state is seeking a legal assistant or paralegal to join their office in Clair Shores, MI. The firm is known for its integrity, deep industry expertise, and strong relationships in the legal community. This person will join their Bankruptcy Department, supporting a team of five attorneys who handle complex creditor representation and bankruptcy matters. This role involves managing high-volume casework, maintaining precise documentation, and ensuring smooth coordination between clients, attorneys, and courts. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and detail-driven, and is someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and values being part of a tight-knit, supportive team that takes pride in their work.
Legal Assistant or Paralegal Responsibilities:
- Support a group of attorneys in the bankruptcy practice, assisting with case management and client communications.
- Prepare, review, and process a variety of legal documents and pleadings, including motions and reaffirmation agreements.
- Handle e-filing in federal and state courts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court rules.
- Maintain and organize electronic and physical case files.
- Manage calendaring, deadlines, and hearing schedules.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff to coordinate case activity.
- Review incoming emails and correspondence to identify relevant information and route appropriately.
- Assist in general administrative duties that support the firm’s attorneys and paralegal team.
Legal Assistant or Paralegal Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal within bankruptcy or creditor representation.
- Familiarity with e-filing systems, court procedures, and drafting legal documents.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage a high-volume caseload.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Clio preferred.
- Professional, team-oriented attitude and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in a collaborative office environment.
- Experience supporting attorneys in collections, foreclosure, or probate matters preferred
- Paralegal certificate or associate/bachelor’s degree in a legal or related field preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy preferred
