Job Description
A high-volume, high-reputation creditor-rights firm that’s been operating for 70 years needs a Collections Legal Assistant for their St. Clair Shores, MI team. They need someone who can thrive in the chaos, keep the details tight, and support a fast-moving collections group with accuracy, composure, and strong communication. You’ll manage the daily heartbeat of the work, drafting, e-filing, calendaring, processing pleadings, and staying ahead of a steady stream of client and opposing-party communication. They’re looking for someone organized, patient, unflappable, and real. A person who can hold the line with difficult clients, handle volume without dropping the ball, and bring professionalism without being uptight.
Collections Legal Assistant Responsibilities:
- Support the Collections group by managing a high volume of inbound documents, emails, and case activity
- Process and organize paperwork, pleadings, and court filings across Bankruptcy, Collections, Foreclosure, Probate, and Trustee Representation matters
- Draft routine legal documents, including motions, reaffirmation agreements, and correspondence
- E-file documents accurately and promptly across required court systems
- Maintain detailed calendars, deadlines, and case timelines
- Review pleadings and identify key information or required next steps
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and self-represented parties with clarity and patience
- Monitor and triage heavy email volume, ensuring urgent requests are escalated, and nothing slips through the cracks
- Collaborating with attorneys and support staff in an open-office environment
- Uphold firm standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and detail accuracy
Collections Legal Assistant Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of clerical or administrative experience in a white-collar environment
- High school diploma required
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing high-volume workflows
- Skilled in written and verbal communication, especially with difficult or emotional clients
- Experience drafting documents, proofreading, and managing deadlines
- Ability to stay focused and composed in a fast-paced, detail-heavy environment
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite; experience with Clio is a plus
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to a full-time onsite schedule (M–F, 8:30–5)
- Clean criminal background
- Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred
- Prior experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal preferred
