Job Description

A respected non-profit is seeking a mission-driven Operations Manager to lead daily operations, elevate internal systems, and support organizational growth. This role will oversee people, processes, and program execution, ensuring the organization operates with excellence, compliance, and compassion across all services. The Operations Manager will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team, guide staff performance and development, and ensure alignment across finance, HR, compliance, and community initiatives. This is a hands-on leadership role with clear runway to grow into a Deputy Director or COO. The ideal candidate brings heart and high standards and is a collaborative leader who holds the mission close, leads by example, and builds a culture of accountability, care, and community trust.

Operations Manager Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient processes, strong execution, and excellent client experience
  • Manage, coach, and develop staff
  • Set clear expectations and oversee performance and accountability
  • Maintain and update SOPs, job descriptions, and operational workflows for consistency and compliance
  • Develop and manage reporting calendars for grants and contracts
  • Ensure timely submissions and audits
  • Oversee multi-source grant compliance, audit preparation, and performance metrics
  • Partner with CEO, Finance, and HR to ensure alignment of policies, risk management, and organizational fidelity
  • Support board engagement
  • Compile board packages, meeting materials, and operational reports
  • Manage vendor relationships, insurance, liability coverage, and building maintenance needs
  • Improve filing systems and implement digital record-keeping and efficiency tools
  • Support community engagement events, workshops, homeowner education, and client-facing initiatives
  • Champion a culture of dignity, service, and equitable access for all clients

Operations Manager Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive operations and program management experience
  • Minimum 2 years directly supervising staff and managing performance metrics
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • MPA strongly preferred
  • Proven experience managing multi-source grants, compliance reporting, and audit readiness
  • Experience managing a $1M+ budget
  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience developing SOPs and leading organizational change
  • Familiarity with donor management or CRM systems
  • Nonprofit experience required
  • Community development sector experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in risk management, insurance, and program liability management
  • Graduate studies in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Finance/Accounting, or Social Work preferred
  • Grant writing or competitive grant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Fair Housing Act and community development regulations preferred
  • PMP, Lean Six Sigma, HUD, Notary, NMLS a plus
  • Spanish-speaking a plus
  • Mortgage lending, underwriting, or housing program experience a plus
