Job Description
A respected hedge fund is seeking a Private Fund Accountant to join its dynamic finance team in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. This role supports the accounting and reporting functions for private hedge funds, private debt funds, and separately managed accounts: approximately 30 – 40. Reporting to the CFO, you’ll work in a highly collaborative, analytical, and fast-paced environment that rewards initiative, problem-solving, and precision. The ideal candidate is sharp, driven, and hungry to learn and is someone who thrives on intellectual challenge, digs deep into complex data, and brings clarity to sophisticated fund structures.
Private Fund Accountant Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for private funds and SMAs
 - Perform reconciliations with external administrators, including NAV and P&L calculations, allocations, and management/incentive fee computations
 - Review and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy and consistency
 - Collaborate with outside administrators and auditors to ensure data integrity and compliance
 - Support budgeting, forecasting, and accrual tracking for fund operations
 - Partner with tax and operations teams to coordinate deliverables and reporting
 - Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, transparency, and scalability across the accounting function
 - Work cross-functionally with senior leadership to provide insight into fund performance and operations
 
Private Fund Accountant Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
 - 2 – 4 years of fund accounting experience within hedge funds, private equity, or financial services
 - Solid understanding of GAAP and fund-level accounting principles
 - Advanced Excel proficiency
 - Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data
 - Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
 - Preferred experience with Structured products, mortgage-backed securities, whole loans, or derivatives, SQL (a plus), CPA certification (preferred but not required)
 - Must be a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment
