Job Description
A leading construction and technology services firm based in Smyrna, Georgia is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the financial operations of a modular division. The role includes managing a small finance team, leading budgeting and forecasting, monitoring project costs and margins, and ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a seasoned accounting professional from the construction or manufacturing industry with a long-term commitment, strong leadership abilities, and the capability to partner closely with operations and the CFO to drive overall business performance.
Controller Responsibilities:
- Oversee the financial operations of a modular or division-level business with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
- Manage a small finance team including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and administrative staff
- Maintain the general ledger, perform monthly and quarterly closes, and prepare financial reporting
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial plans for projects and division operations
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance of the division
- Review contracts, change orders, and project billing for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure adherence to GAAP standards and maintain audit readiness
- Establish and maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures
- Partner with operational teams to track project costs, margins, and profitability
- Support executive leadership with strategic planning and capital initiatives
- Assist with HR and IT-related financial tasks including payroll and systems support
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness
Controller Requirements:
- 10+ years of accounting experience overall with 2–3+ years in a management role
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, or related industries preferred
- Proficiency with Word, Outlook, and standard accounting systems
- Commitment to long-term career growth within the organization
