Job Description

A leading construction management firm is seeking a Project Engineer to support a large-scale transit infrastructure project in Newark, New Jersey. This role involves managing project documentation, reviewing specifications and drawings, supporting subcontractor coordination, and ensuring work complies with design and safety standards. The Project Engineer will also assist with cost reporting, scheduling, procurement, and field operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and brings extensive experience on complex heavy civil projects.

Salary Range: $110,000 – $165,000 / year DOE

Project Engineer Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with billings, cash flow, and change order preparation
  • Review drawings, specifications, and mock-ups for compliance
  • Track subcontractor compliance and coordinate with QA/QC teams
  • Ensure project work meets codes, drawings, and specifications
  • Identify critical tasks, order materials, and schedule deliveries
  • Support preparation of work plans, schedules, and progress updates
  • Assist with document control, safety programs, and environmental compliance
  •  Perform material quantity takeoffs and cost reporting
  • Help prepare purchase orders and subcontract agreements
  • Support supervision of field operations and subcontractors

Project Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience in heavy civil construction
  • Proven experience on projects valued over $100 million
  • Strong background in cost reporting and project financial management
  • Familiarity with contract and claims processes
  • Proficiency in MS Office and industry software such as Procore and Primavera P6
  • Experience on NYC Metro area infrastructure projects
  • Solid work history with general contractors, not design firms or state agencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
