Job Description
A financial services company is seeking a sharp, detail-oriented, and emotionally intelligent SBA Loan Underwriter/Analyst to join their growing financial services team. This critical role will support their mission to help small and medium-sized businesses access flexible capital solutions when they need it most. Reporting directly to the Chief Credit Officer, this person will analyze financial documents, evaluate borrower risk, and help scale their underwriting function as we expand. The ideal candidate is confident, analytical, self-motivated, and brings strong communication and decision-making skills to a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a financial professional who thrives in small, dynamic teams and wants to grow into a leadership role. Candidates must be comfortable working East Coast hours and participating in initial in-person training in East Philadelphia.
Salary Range: $100,000 – $125,000 / year DOE
SBA Loan Underwriter/Analyst Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze financial statements, tax returns, and bank records to assess creditworthiness
- Evaluate risk and recommend credit decisions for small business loan applicants
- Conduct borrower interviews and communicate repayment terms and policies
- Investigate and validate prospective clients using publicly available data
- Support development of underwriting standards and new loan product offerings
- Collaborate with the Chief Credit Officer on complex or large transactions
- Track loan status and support internal teams across the loan lifecycle
- Identify opportunities to improve financial models, processes, and capital evaluation methods
- Maintain a proactive, solutions-driven mindset in a fast-growing environment
SBA Loan Underwriter/Analyst Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- 4–7 years of professional experience in credit analysis, underwriting, financial services, wealth management, or related industries
- Strong financial acumen and proficiency in analyzing financial statements
- Experience making decisions with incomplete information and assessing borrower risk without collateral
- Highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Comfortable in a startup-like culture: self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to grow
- Must be available to work EST hours and attend in-person training in East Philadelphia
- Familiarity with MS Office 365; experience with HubSpot CRM is a plus
