Job Description
A growing manufacturing company in North Billerica, MA is seeking a skilled Welder to join a close-knit team focused on building complex, high-performance mechanical systems. This role centers on custom fabrication and precision TIG/MIG welding of stainless steel and mild steel components based on detailed drawings and strict specifications. The Welder will be responsible for assembling and occasionally servicing intricate systems such as gas distribution assemblies and stainless steel vacuum chambers requiring zero-porosity welds. The position also offers the opportunity for local travel to support field service and system installations. The ideal candidate is reliable, mechanically inclined, confident interpreting technical drawings, and thrives in a collaborative shop environment with variety in day-to-day work.
Welder Responsibilities:
- Fabricate and weld custom stainless and mild steel components using TIG and MIG per mechanical drawings
- Ensure accurate weld prep, angle, penetration, and zero porosity according to strict tolerances
- Assemble frames, piping, chambers, and other vacuum system components
- Perform orbital welding on gas distribution systems as required
- Operate, test, and service vacuum furnaces including loading/unloading, monitoring fluids, and insulation repairs
- Inspect incoming parts and sub-assemblies using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools
- Travel locally 10–20% to assist with system installs and customer field service
- Flex into other shop support roles including shipping/receiving and mechanical assembly
Welder Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years TIG & MIG welding experience
- Deep understanding of mechanical drawings, welding symbols, and P&ID schematics
- Solid mechanical skills using hand tools, cranes, lifts, and fork trucks
- Prior work with vacuum equipment (assembly and/or operation)
- Hands-on experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting instrumentation and process control
- Familiarity with sub-assembly inspections and quality checks
- Ability to work on-site with occasional travel to local client locations
- Team player mindset with willingness to flex and support wherever needed
