Job Description

A family-owned and operated building materials supplier is seeking a driven and personable Outside Sales Representative. This is a client-facing, relationship-based role selling a full suite of building materials—lumber, decking, windows, and more—to framers, general contractors, and custom homebuilders. The right candidate is someone who thrives in a collaborative, team-first environment and has the grit and integrity to serve their loyal customer base while growing new relationships.

Outside Sales Representative Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with builders, contractors, and framers
  • Conduct job site visits and client meetings to understand needs and provide tailored material solutions
  • Generate and grow sales by identifying new project opportunities
  • Handle project takeoffs and basic understanding of measurements and materials required
  • Collaborate closely with operations, inside sales, and other sales reps to fulfill orders and exceed customer expectations
  • Track sales performance with a focus on gross profit and team-based success metrics
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and new products

Outside Sales Representative Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in outside sales or equivalent industry experience
  • Background in construction, building materials, doors/windows, roofing, or lumber strongly preferred
  • Comfortable reading blueprints and doing basic material takeoffs
  • Must be self-motivated, honest, and team-oriented
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for client visits
  • No degree required—experience and industry knowledge valued over formal education
  • Experience selling to residential homebuilders or general contractors is a plus
  • Knowledge of construction supply chains and materials is preferred
  • Familiarity with Epicor or Dimensions
