Job Description

A family-owned leader in custom packaging solutions in Ellington, CT is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Packer to support the operations of their Finishing Department. This role is responsible for packing paperboard cartons into corrugated cases based on job specifications, maintaining a clean and orderly workspace, and following all safety guidelines and procedures. Key tasks include reading job tickets, identifying quality issues, and assisting in setting up packing methods for new jobs. The ideal candidate is a reliable team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is open to cross-training and department flexibility as needed.

Packer Responsibilities: 

  • Follow job tickets to ensure proper job setup and packing instructions
  • Assist in developing packing methods and selecting case sizes for new carton jobs
  • Pack paperboard cartons into corrugated cases based on job specs and standard methods
  • Identify and report quality issues clearly and accurately to supervisors
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations
  • Detect and report defective materials, inconsistencies, and safety hazards
  • Foster positive working relationships with coworkers and supervisors
  • Be flexible for cross-training and reassignment across departments as required

Packer Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Comfortable reading a ruler and performing basic math functions
  • Familiarity with using a computer and basic manufacturing software
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to use a hand pallet jack
  • Physically able to climb stairs and remain on feet for most of the workday
  • Willing to perform constant bending, twisting, sorting, walking, and counting
  • Must follow all safety protocols including Lock Out Tag Out, proper lifting techniques, and hazard communication
