Job Description
A higher education publishing company is seeking a confident, self-driven Outside Sales Rep professional to join their team. In this role, you will build relationships with college professors to develop custom curriculum and textbooks that are both engaging and affordable for students. The ideal candidate must be articulate, possess excellent listening skills, and have the ability to confidently engage professors in meaningful conversations while representing the company with integrity.
Outside Sales Rep Responsibilities:
- Travel to universities throughout your assigned territory to meet with professors and identify potential partnerships
- Conduct 40+ conversations per campus visit to identify professors who need better curriculum solutions
- Schedule and conduct product demonstrations to showcase their custom publishing services
- Manage the sales cycle from initial contact through contract signing
- Oversee author and project management after sale completion to ensure publications launch on time
- Participate in project planning meetings with new authors
- Document and submit project turnover paperwork
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the publication development process
- Maintain strong working relationships with authors before, during, and after publication launches
- Identify new opportunities during off-peak seasons through phone and email outreach and strategic planning
Outside Sales Rep Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2-3 years of outside sales experience selling intangible products and services
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time. Primarily Sunday-Thursday during academic terms
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport quickly
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Emotional resilience and persistence
- Proficiency with CRM systems
