An established engineering firm in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team and support projects from initial planning through completion. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, on-time, and budget-conscious electrical design solutions. Responsibilities include preparing calculations, drawings, specifications, and conducting field observations, as well as performing site visits, reviewing designs, and ensuring compliance with QA/QC procedures. The ideal candidate will contribute to collaborative design reviews, engage with project managers, and pursue continuous professional development to support the success of a close-knit and mission-driven team. 

Electrical Design Engineer Responsibilities: 

• Support electrical design projects from planning through completion 
• Prepare electrical calculations, drawings, specifications, and field observations 
• Participate in design reviews to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to standards 
• Assist in preparing design documents, bid packages, and project deliverables 
• Perform job site visits to assess conditions and verify existing utilities 
• Follow QA/QC procedures to ensure compliance with industry and client standards 
• Coordinate with project managers to meet scope, schedule, and budget goals 
• Attend meetings and contribute technical input as needed 
• Stay up to date with codes, standards, and industry best practices 
• Pursue continued professional development and training 

Electrical Design Engineer Requirements: 

• Must have an associate or bachelor’s degree, or high school diploma with 5+ years of relevant experience 
• Preferred degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field 
• Understanding of supporting electrical design projects from start to finish 
• Experience preparing electrical calculations, drawings, specs, and field observations 
• Required experience creating design documents and bid packages 
• Familiarity with QA/QC procedures and compliance standards 
• Knowledge of ASHRAE, IECC, and LEED requirements 
• Must have experience with AutoCAD and Revit 
• Experience with lighting controls, RF shielding, or Bluebeam is a plus 
• Experience in project management or leading projects is preferred 
• PE license or AutoCAD/Revit certifications are a plus
