A stable, well-established construction company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Payable and Job Cost Specialist to join their team full-time on-site in Toms River, NJ. This position plays a critical role in the financial operations of the company, managing AP functions, job cost entries, vendor compliance, and assisting in financial reporting. The role requires close coordination with internal project managers, executives, and external accountants. This opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured, blue-collar, fast-paced environment and enjoys owning their work with minimal supervision. 

Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 / year DOE 

Accounts Payable & Job Cost Specialist Responsibilities: 

• Manage full-cycle accounts payable 
• Set up and maintain vendor and subcontractor records with proper insurance documentation 
• Distribute and enter invoices for project managers 
• Generate detailed reports including committed detail and cash flow variance 
• Select and prepare invoices for payment with appropriate backup 
• Print, process, and file checks and invoices 
• Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow reports 
• Process manual and quick checks as needed 
• Post invoices and reconcile accounts monthly 
• File 1099s and ensure year-end AP close 
• Pay quarterly taxes and handle sales tax exemptions 
• Enter job estimates, purchase orders, and change orders 
• Maintain and update job costing data 
• Allocate weekly payroll to job cost reports 
• Reconcile payroll accounts and perform transfers 
• Support accountant with various monthly reports and audits 
• Maintain filing systems and handle administrative accounting tasks 

Accounts Payable & Job Cost Specialist Requirements: 

• 1-2 years of experience in accounting within a construction environment 
• Experience with AIA billing 
• Knowledge of job costing practices 
• High school diploma or equivalent 
• Proficient in Excel 
• Experience with construction accounting software (any platform) 
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently 
• Comfortable in an old-school, hands-on work environment
