Temp HR Generalist

Job Description
Our client is seeking a Temporary Human Resources Generalist to take on the duties of the HR from May until August. The role is for a fully onsite position in Point Loma, CA. The ideal candidate must have a basic understanding of HR processes, systems, and applicable laws and regulations. They must also be familiar with benefits, training processes, timekeeping, worker’s comp, and leaves of absence. This is a contract position.
Pay Range: $25-$27 per hour DOE
Responsibilities:
- Manage personnel files and document personnel actions through the employee lifecycle
- Provide guidance to employees and managers on company policies related to benefits, training, time and attendance, workers comp, and leaves of absence
- Ensure that tasks in the pre-employment screening process are completed on time and advise the VP of HR of any issues or non-pass results
- Collect and document all necessary paperwork and completed documentation from new hires before their start date
- Complete the I-9 verification process
- Enter new employee information into HR software and ensure that files are complete
- Monitor new hire training assignments, ensure that all necessary courses are completed, and advise the VP of HR of any issues
- Proactively run and review employee progress and enter status updates, certifications, and completed training in HR software
- Assist the VP of HR in managing and preparing for monthly new hire orientations
- Process terminations and possibly conduct exit interviews in collaboration with the VP or a manager
- Order, review, and coordinate updates to federal/state labor law posters
- Audit invoices and prepare check requests for all pre-employment screening expenses and send them to accounts payable
- Ensure that company drivers are added and removed from the company DMV pull program as hires and terminations occur
- Assist the VP with managing and processing unemployment claims
Requirements:
- 1-2 years of experience in HR, with knowledge of recruiting, onboarding, compliance, benefits, time & attendance, leaves of absence, etc
- Basic understanding of employment law
- Intermediate MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with HR information system software (UKG preferred, not required)
- Must be a mandated reporter of suspected abuse or neglect, willing and able to follow all established guidelines (training provided)
- Must have and maintain a current CPR/First Aid certification (training provided, not required before employment)
- Strong professional communication skills (written and verbal)
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
- Valid driver's license and Military background check
- Covid Vaccination and Booster with Religious/Medical Exemption considered
- Associates or Bachelor's in Human Resources or a similar field OR SHRM-CP/HRCI-PHR or HR Certificate preferred
- Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is preferred
