This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a well-established demolition and construction company in Chicago, Illinois, known for its expertise and commitment to quality. In this role, you will manage a variety of financial tasks, including billing with public agencies, handling waivers, processing change orders, and generating monthly pay estimates. You'll also be responsible for certified payroll and union-related payroll functions, using Sage 100 to ensure accurate project accounting and compliance. The ideal candidate is experienced in billing from the contractor side, familiar with union payroll, and possesses 3-5 years of accounting experience. We're looking for someone with confidence, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to maintaining accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 / year

Project Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Process monthly subcontractor waivers and ensure timely documentation
  • Set up new projects in accounting software, maintaining accurate and organized records
  • Update change orders and budget adjustments in accounting software to reflect project developments
  • Verify that all subcontractor and general contractor insurance is current for each new project
  • Support project managers in issuing subcontractor purchase orders and Master Vendor Agreements
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with payroll and project-specific contract requirements
  • Assist with IDOL and LCP Tracker entries to ensure regulatory compliance and accurate project reporting

Project Accountant Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in project accounting, ideally from a general contractor or large subcontractor environment
  • Strong billing experience on the contractor side, with an understanding of union and certified payroll
  • Proficient in Sage 100 software, Office 365 and Ebuilder
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience (preferably in accounting or a related field)
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams
