Job Description

A commercial baking production company is looking to hire a Plant Manager as one of the first employees at their brand-new facility in Portland, OR. The Plant Manager will oversee all aspects of plant operations, and other key responsibilities include planning and achieving productivity goals, monitoring processes for efficiency and compliance, and developing cost-effective production strategies. The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and exhibits strong leadership qualities, clear communication, proactive thinking, and a high level of accountability.

Plant Manager Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years in commercial baking production; food-related management experience highly preferred
  • Must have forklift certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with SQF program audits is a plus
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in business management, budgeting, project management, and logistics
  • Ability to manage funds, staff, and resolve conflicts
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google or Excel spreadsheets, email, and enterprise systems
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement Processes, Quality Control, Lean Manufacturing, ISO, SixSigma, and Quality Assurance
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop team members
  • Flexibility, strategic planning, and strong organizational skills
  • Able to work 100% onsite at their office in Portland, OR

Plant Manager Responsibilities:

  • Build out and implement plant operations and procedures from scratch
  • Enforce safety procedures across all areas
  • Plan production schedules and manage daily operations
  • Optimize production and minimize costs using the PDCA cycle; create and manage budgets
  • Analyze data to reduce waste and overtime
  • Develop systems to track and optimize productivity
  • Prepare and present performance reports; ensure standards and performance targets are met
  • Stay updated on best practices in production management
  • Recruit, manage, and develop plant staff
  • Monitor operations and initiate corrective actions
  • Direct and unify the team, fostering trust and clear communication
  • Oversee work schedules and address employee issues
  • Operate forklifts for material handling as needed
  • Supervise facility buildout activities
