To support our rapid expansion, we are seeking an experienced, solutions-oriented In-House General Counsel to join us full-time at our downtown San Diego office. This role is perfect for a mid-career attorney looking for meaningful work with a company that truly prioritizes work-life balance a refreshing change from the traditional law firm model. The ideal candidate will have expertise in business law, employment law, and labor law, providing strategic legal counsel across multiple jurisdictions, including all 50 states and Canada.
Salary Range: $140,000 / year + discretionary bonus
Responsibilities
- Advise on legal matters impacting the company across all 50 states, ensuring compliance with varying state laws and regulations, with a focus on business law, employment law, and labor law
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including SaaS agreements, employment contracts, and business agreements, to safeguard the company s interests
- Collaborate with local counsel in different states to address specific legal issues and ensure compliance with state-specific requirements
- Develop and maintain effective legal compliance and risk management strategies to support the company s rapid growth
- Manage high-volume legal matters typical of the staffing industry, focusing on contract law, collections, and employment law disputes
- Provide strategic legal guidance on multi-state and international matters, particularly in Canada
- Oversee the legal aspects of scaling the company, addressing challenges tied to staffing, regulatory compliance, and rapid growth
- Advocate effectively for BTQ s interests in negotiations and provide actionable, strategic legal counsel to leadership
Requirements
- J.D. from a reputable law school (required)
- Active California law license in good standing, with a record of upholding professional standards in all jurisdictions where licensed
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience as general counsel for businesses, preferably for a service-based organization (staffing industry experience is a plus)
- Expertise in business law, employment law, labor law, and contract law
- Experience handling legal matters for high-growth companies, including multi-state compliance and regulatory matters
- Ability to provide strategic legal counsel while managing operational legal needs in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work on-site in San Diego, CA
