Job Description

A nonprofit organization in Scottsdale, AZ is searching for a passionate and experienced Major Gift Officer (MGO) to join their mission-driven team! This key role focuses on advancing their programs and initiatives through strategic philanthropic efforts, particularly by securing significant donations and legacy gifts from individual donors. The ideal candidate is a seasoned fundraising professional with a successful track record in major gift acquisition, a strong network of prospects, and the ability to build deep, meaningful relationships with donors. They seek someone with empathy, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for supporting homeless families in crisis. Major Gift Officer Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts
  • Proven success in securing five, six, and seven-figure donations and legacy gifts
  • Strong existing prospect base and exceptional networking skills
  • Experience with donor management tools, particularly Raiser s Edge
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to connect deeply with donors
  • Demonstrated grit and perseverance in achieving fundraising goals
  • Experience in the homeless services industry is preferred
  • CFRE designation is preferred
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday with evenings, nights and weekends as needed

Major Gift Officer Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage a portfolio of 150+ major gift prospects, focusing on five, six, and seven-figure donations
  • Develop and implement strategies for discovering and cultivating major gift prospects
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals
  • Engage in community events and networking opportunities to increase awareness and support for the organization
  • Plan and execute personalized communication strategies to recognize and engage donors
  • Serve as a liaison to the Board for fundraising events and committees
  • Focus on securing legacy gift commitments to ensure long-term financial stability
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fundraising trends and best practices
  • Approach donor relationships with sincerity, patience, and a genuine interest in their well-being
