An established construction firm is seeking a Full Charge Construction Bookkeeper in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, to oversee the financial operations of their growing company specializing in telecom and utility construction projects. This role involves preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, managing cash flow, overseeing job costing and project accounting, and handling construction contracts and billing. Additional responsibilities include budgeting, internal controls, compliance with GAAP standards, and the supervision of an administrative assistant. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, a background in construction, and a proactive approach to managing financial operations. Someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in an on-site, collaborative environment is very much suited for this role!

Full Charge Construction Bookkeeper Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Manage cash flow, ensuring timely collections and healthy cash positions
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee job costing and project accounting to monitor project budgets
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP
  • Review and manage construction contracts, including billing cycles and collections
  • Develop budgets and financial forecasts, collaborating with project managers
  • Work closely with an external CPA on tax preparation and audits
  • Lead the transition to a new accounting software within a year
  • Supervise one administrative staff, supporting onboarding and policy compliance

Full Charge Construction Bookkeeper Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, with 2-3 years as a Controller
  • Bachelor s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in construction accounting
  • Familiarity with CF Data preferred; QuickBooks knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to work onsite in a construction environment with effective and professional communication across teams
