Job Description


A non-profit research organization is seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant in Los Angeles, CA. This is a fully remote position, but candidates must live in California. The role requires strong accounting skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and support during the audit process.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants the flexibility of working remotely for a top research institution that is helping to make positive changes in the world, particularly in Southern California.

Pay Range: $110,000  -$120,000 DOE

Responsibilities: 
  • Perform journal entries, preparation and posting of other people's journals, and general ledger accounting
  • Utilize the built-in validation rules in the accounting software to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Ensure that financial transactions flow through the system properly and are accurately reflected in financial reporting
  • Review financial reports to ensure that information is accurately represented and make recommendations for improvement
  • Advise junior-level staff on accounting errors and provide guidance on how to correct them
  • Provide critical support during the audit process, including preparing support schedules and making sure financials make sense
  • Support the 990-filing process and understand the implementation of accounting standards and processes
  • Collaborate with the Asst. Controller and senior management to make final decisions on accounting standards and processes

Requirements: 
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is a must
  • 8-10 years of experience in accounting with strong GAAP knowledge
  • 2-3 years of experience in financial reporting
  • Must be able to deal with over 500,000 data lines per year
  • Non-profit/foundation experience is a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Dynamics, Gyra, Smartsheet and FundRiser
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Remote - Must live in CA
