A well established irrigation firm is seeking a Director of Sales that will lead and drive the growth of B2B sales operations across Oakland, California, managing a team of territory managers and building strong relationships with clients, including contractors, landscaping companies, municipalities, and golf courses. This field-based role demands a proactive, high-energy sales leader to guide territory strategy, support client visits, and deliver exceptional customer service. Key responsibilities include leading a small, dedicated team, conducting client site visits, overseeing regional sales strategies, and ensuring the highest standards of service. The ideal candidate is a warm, approachable, and results-driven sales leader with experience in outside sales management, a focus on team development, and a passion for customer-focused growth.
Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000 / year DOE
Director of Sales Responsibilities:
- Drive outside sales operations across a territory extending from Healdsburg to Santa Cruz, focusing on B2B sales of professional-grade irrigation and landscape supplies
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately five territory managers, providing guidance to enhance sales effectiveness and customer satisfaction
- Establish strong relationships with clients, including landscaping companies, contractors, municipalities, and golf courses, by delivering high-quality, customer-centric service
- Implement and oversee territory sales strategies, set targets, and monitor team performance to support steady, organic growth in the market
- Conduct field visits to customer sites, including project sites, corporate headquarters, and store locations, to assess needs, provide product insights, and support territory managers
- Coordinate with branch managers on product updates, service improvements, and operational needs, ensuring alignment with company standards and goals
- Manage recruitment, hiring, and team-building activities for the outside sales staff, maintaining a high level of professionalism and accountability
Director of Sales Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in a sales management role with a focus on leading outside sales teams
- Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, and develop sales talent; direct experience with managing performance and team development
- Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse client base in a field-based sales environment
- Familiarity with sales software, preferably Salesforce or other CRM systems
- High level of organization, autonomy, and self-motivation to manage a dynamic, on-the-road role
- Fluent in English and Spanish, and experience in the construction or landscaping industry are a plus
