Director of Juniors/Children's Merchandise
Job Description
An industry-leading design house in New York, NY is looking for an experienced Director of Juniors/Children's Merchandise. As the key sales leader in the division, you will develop and execute sales strategies, manage a team, and build a strong portfolio of retail accounts. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the juniors/kids' market, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of sales growth. They are looking for a dynamic and entrepreneurial individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to build relationships, lead a team, and execute a successful sales strategy for a new division.
Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000 / year DOE
Director of Juniors/Children s Merchandise Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy for the Junior Girls/Boys & Kids Division
- Identify and pursue new sales opportunities with department stores, specialty retailers, and online platforms
- Cultivate and manage a personal portfolio of accounts, leveraging industry relationships to drive sales
- Work directly with buyers and retail partners to secure purchase orders and negotiate terms
- Build and expand a book of business, targeting key accounts and retail partners
- Serve as the primary contact for retail buyers, ensuring strong relationships and repeat business
- Collaborate with the design and production teams to align product development with market trends and client needs
- Monitor sales performance and adjust strategies based on market trends and competitive activity
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of 3-4 professionals with plans for future expansion
- Provide feedback to design teams on product performance, trends, and customer preferences
- Collaborate with visual merchandising teams to optimize product displays for maximum sales impact
- Present performance reports for internal teams, highlighting successes, challenges, and opportunities
Director of Juniors/Children s Merchandise Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior sales or merchandising role, ideally at the executive or director level
- Established relationships with key retail accounts and the ability to bring on new clients
- Proven track record of building and growing a book of business
- Strong knowledge of fashion trends, retail dynamics, and merchandising principles
- Excellent leadership skills with experience managing small teams
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a hands-on approach in a startup division
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Experience working in the juniors/kids market and understanding its dynamics
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced and constantly changing environments
- Proficient in merchandising principles and market trends for junior and children s fashion
