Job Description


Our client is seeking a skilled Controller to join their dynamic team at a hospitality group in Torrance, CA. This position offers a hybrid work schedule giving the employee freedom to work both in the office and remotely. As a Controller, you will work closely with the Senior Director of Finance and oversee the accounting management team to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. You will also prepare annual budgets, implement internal control policies and procedures, and lead the transition of accounting functions in-house. 
 
Pay Range:$120,000 - $150,000 DOE 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Work directly with outsourced accounting team counterpart to audit all financial statements
  • Recommend financial metrics to measure performance and provide management with short and long-term financial objectives
  • Produce annual and period forecasts and report significant budget differences to leadership
  • Provide financial analysis, emphasizing capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Identify development opportunities and improvements that can be made through reviewing financial details from past, present, and forecasted operations
  • Monitor cash needs and forecasting models to ensure adequate operating capital available at all times
  • Mentor and train basic accounting principles to unit management
  • Act as the primary liaison between external auditors and provide requested information for the annual audit
  • Ensure accuracy and file quarterly and annual reports with governmental agencies, including federal, state, and local income, property, payroll, franchise, sales & use taxes
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards ensuring compliance
  • Function as a liaison between the company's insurance broker for all lines of insurance coverages
  • Liaise with the company's CPA, outsourced legal counsel, and bank as needed or directed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
 
Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field required (Accounting or Business Administration); Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of related experience in multi-unit retail, restaurant or hospitality required
  • 2 or more years at the Controller level or higher.
  • Restaurant experience (corporate or similar level) strongly preferred
  • Excellent management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, accounting software, and ERP systems
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines
