Job Description
An award-winning charter school organization in Escondido, CA is seeking a talented Controller to oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities for their academies. This is an amazing and highly coveted opportunity that comes with all the perks of a school-based job that includes 10 weeks off per year, a pension and amazing benefits for employees and their family, amongst other great things.
In this role, you will be holding a management-level position while working closely with the CFO to plan and direct all accounting and operational functions. The ideal candidate for this role should have leadership qualities, 7+ years of progressive accounting experience and be friendly working with different people at different sites, from time to time.
Pay Range: $114,000 - $135,000 DOE
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operational functions of the accounting department
- Direct and manage a team of 4 payroll specialists and 4 general ledger accountants
- Assist the CFO in accounting and budgeting activities
- Perform budgeting for the charter schools within the organization
- Analyze financial statements, payroll, and budgets, identifying any tax compliance issues
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes
- Manage cash flow reporting
- Train and coordinate training for the accounting team
- Oversee the financial audit process for the academies
- Utilize NetSuite, Microsoft Office, and advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis
- Conduct general ledger analysis
- Ensure compliance with fund accounting or government accounting standards
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA certification preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong proficiency in NetSuite and Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills
- Experience with fund accounting or government accounting
- Demonstrated ability in reporting and budgeting
- Knowledge of month-end and year-end closing procedures
- General ledger analysis experience
