Job Description

A family-owned and reputable construction company in Upper Marlboro, MD that specializes in commercial curtain walls is seeking a hands-on Controller to join their team in a leadership role! The Controller will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of the company's operations, supervising a small team, and ensuring accurate reporting for billing and insurance requirements.

This role requires a professional with construction industry experience and a strong background in accounting and job costing. The ideal candidate should be a reliable and positive communicator, capable of building trust and autonomy in their work.  You will be joining a friendly office environment where everyone gets along, while enjoy fantastic benefits options for employees and their family!
 
Pay Range:
$150,000 - $175,000 DOE
 
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with auditors and assist in gathering necessary paperwork for annual audits
  • Prepare and manage various reports required by general contractors for billing purposes
  • Oversee and manage multiple insurance policies related to workers' compensation, general liability, professional umbrella, and cyber coverage
  • Prepare quarterly and sometimes monthly financial reports
  • Conduct job costing and work in progress (WIP) analysis
  • Handle various insurance policies, including commercial insurance, health, and life insurance
  • Act as a liaison with the IT outsourced company for cloud-based operations
     
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of experience in the construction industry, with expertise in job costing, WIP analysis, and general accounting
  • 10+ years of overall accounting experience
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Sage 300 and intermediate Excel skills (macros and formulas)
  • Experience in handling various insurance policies, especially relevant in the commercial sector
  • CPA certification and auditing experience is preferred
  • IT background is preferred
