Construction Accountant
Job Description
A reputable commercial fire protection company is seeking a Construction Accountant to join their team in Fremont, CA. This hands-on role involves working closely with Payroll, Billing, and the CFO. The ideal candidate is versatile and self-driven, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is capable of managing multiple financial responsibilities. Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000 / year DOE
Construction Accountant Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual)
- Record and reconcile transactions for accuracy
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing and payments
- Track project costs and prepare job cost reports
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring tax compliance
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Conduct profitability analysis and cost control for projects
- Ensure tax and contractor licensing compliance, including filings
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparations
- Mentor junior accounting staff and implement process improvements
Construction Accountant Requirements:
- 4-7 years of experience in construction accounting, particularly with a mechanical subcontractor
- Proficient in AR/AP, payroll, and general liability audits
- Experience with Viewpoint ProContractor (preferred) and Microsoft 365
- Self-reliant, organized, and capable of managing customer disputes calmly
- Familiarity with union fund management, preliens, and equipment vendors
- Experience in payroll tracking for publicly funded projects
- Able to manage audits, including sales tax and insurance
- Procore experience is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of ACC and experience working in a union shop is preferred but not required
