Billing Clerk
Job Description
Our client is looking to hire a Billing Clerk to assist with billing and clerical support services, as well as receptionist functions within the Billing department under the supervision of the Billing and Coding Supervisor. This non-profit organization fosters a family-like, team-oriented culture where employees are friendly and enjoy coming to work. This is a hybrid opportunity based out of San Diego and offers immense growth potential for someone who enjoys multitasking, has knowledge of medical terminology & coding experience!
Salary Range: $21.00 - $29.19 / hour DOE
Billing Clerk Requirements:
- 2+ years of billing in Medical/Dental/Pharmacy/Behavioral Health
- Associate's Degree (AA) in a relevant field
- Strong customer service, team building, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, take initiative, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding
- A valid driver s license
- Certificate from a medical institute preferred
- NextGen Healthcare EHR/EMR is a plus
- Office is in Alpine, CA; must be able to come in office
Billing Clerk Responsibilities:
- Verify and pre-code charge batches using PM/EHR systems
- Report to the Billing Supervisor of any payer issues or ongoing trends
- Confirm eligibility, obtain authorization, and check insurance details
- Validate documentation for new patients and specialty programs
- Apply correct CPT, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers for billing
- Manage life cycle of claims from processing and daily edits, resolving claim rejections through clearinghouse
- Collect outstanding balances from insurers and patients, following up with payers on claim statuses needed
- Review remit codes to identify denials and non-payment
