Job Description
A seasoned union electrical contractor is hiring a Fleet & Equipment Manager who will own the full lifecycle of their trucks, heavy machinery, tools, and shop operations. This role keeps a $15M, 80-job-per-year electrical construction company moving and is responsible for assigning equipment, overseeing maintenance, managing inventory, troubleshooting small repairs, and making smart decisions about repair vs replacement. They need someone who brings mechanical instinct, operational discipline, and pride in building systems that keep crews efficient and safe. The right candidate is organized, proactive, mechanically sharp, and thrives in a hands-on, hard-working, team-first environment.
Fleet & Equipment Manager Responsibilities:
- Oversee and track maintenance for 35 trucks, excavators, skid steers, compressors, and specialty vehicles
- Assign and coordinate equipment and trucks across all active projects
- Assess equipment condition and advise leadership on repair vs replacement
- Perform small in-house repairs as needed and accurately scope external repair needs
- Maintain equipment certifications, vehicle compliance, and tool calibrations
- Implement and manage the red-tag/green-tag safety and readiness process
- Manage inventory of tools, parts, equipment, and ensure items return from jobsites
- Supervise two shop team members and support daily morning equipment distribution
- Track mileage, utilization, and maintenance through Go Motive, GM Financial, and Excel
- Build or help implement a more robust maintenance-tracking system
- Uphold a culture of care and accountability for equipment across the field team
Fleet & Equipment Requirements:
- 2 – 5+ years of Fleet Management experience with gas/diesel trucks and heavy equipment
- Experience managing 20+ pieces of equipment minimum
- Strong mechanical aptitude; able to perform small repairs independently
- Industry background in construction, utility, or similar field-based equipment operations
- Technically savvy with Excel and fleet tracking tools
- Organized, reliable, team-driven, and able to set strong expectations with field crews
- Ability to start early to ensure crews are fully equipped
- Preferred: former mechanic, bilingual, A-license
