They are launching a new Author Services division and need a leader who won’t just run it; they’ll own it. This role is the heartbeat of the author’s experience, guiding everything from editing and ghostwriting to design, production, publishing strategy, and distribution. You will shape the systems, build the team, raise the bar, and deliver a premium publishing experience that helps authors bring their books to life with confidence and clarity. Head of Author Services Responsibilities:

• Lead the entire Author Services division and oversee all editing, writing, design, and production workflows
• Build and manage a high-performing network of editors, writers, ghostwriters, designers, and industry partners
• Own budgets, timelines, KPIs, and profitability across all author projects
• Create a seamless, high-touch onboarding experience for every author
• Partner with marketing to attract and convert new authors
• Support sales with expert publishing insight and service recommendations
• Be the company representative through webinars, events, and author-facing content
• Maintain elite quality standards and safeguard every step of the production process
• Manage revisions, enforce timelines, and ensure top-tier project outcomes
• Lead print, e-book, and audiobook strategy
• Advise authors on metadata, category strategy, Amazon optimization, and launch planning
• Expand distribution relationships and improve product reach
• Propose and test new services, pricing models, tools, and workflows
• Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging publishing technology

Head of Author Services Requirements:

• 10+ years in publishing
• A track record of supporting bestselling authors or producing high-performing books
• Hands-on experience with editing, ghostwriting, design, production, and distribution
• Ability to own KPIs, drive results, and build systems from the ground up
• Experience managing creative teams or contractors
• Strong editorial judgment and elite project management skills
• Confident running webinars, workshops, or public-facing content
• Industry network or author-facing credibility strongly preferred
• Experience as a published author is a plus
• Proficient in Word and Outlook
