Job Description
An established manufacturing leader is seeking a Lead CNC Programmer to modernize and streamline CNC operations for their Bristol, Rhode Island facility. This position will take the lead in transitioning from traditional machining to a fully integrated CAD-to-CAM process—designing, programming, and producing precision tooling that delivers complete, ready-to-use components. The ideal candidate is a hands-on innovator who thrives on improving systems, developing tooling strategies, and mentoring others in a dynamic production environment.
Lead CNC Programmer Responsibilities:
- Design and develop CNC programs for milling, turning, and multi-axis machines to manufacture precision tooling and fixtures
- Create tooling components capable of producing complete, plug-and-play parts without secondary processing
- Collaborate with engineering, tool room, and production teams to determine optimal fabrication and machining strategies
- Troubleshoot machining and programming challenges to maintain quality and efficiency
- Lead modernization and process improvement initiatives within the CNC and tooling departments
- Utilize CAD/CAM software to design and program components from concept to finished product
- Support prototype and production tooling efforts across multiple material types and machining methods
- Maintain adherence to company and industry quality standards
Lead CNC Programmer Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing or toolmaking environment
- Proven background working with CAD/CAM software
- Strong understanding of quality management systems
- Demonstrated ability to take projects from CAD design through CAM programming to final production
- Hands-on machining knowledge with the ability to collaborate closely with toolmakers and engineers
- Innovative mindset with a focus on process improvement and modernization
- Ability to work onsite full-time in a collaborative, production-driven setting
