Position Title: Business Development Manager
The Business Development Manager plays a crucial role in expanding market presence within the retail grocery sector. This position requires an individual with a strong background in supply chain dynamics and a proven track record in business development. The manager will engage with regional and national grocery chains to foster partnerships and drive sales. Candidates must demonstrate tenacity in relationship-building and possess the ability to navigate the complexities of the sales cycle. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and a commitment to achieving results in a competitive environment.
Business Development Manager Responsibilities
- Seek out and cultivate new business prospects among food and fresh produce distributors, area grocery stores, regional retail chains, processors, growers or producers, as well as other appropriate channels.
- Work in partnership with management to identify and secure new clients, resulting in growth in account portfolios.
- Engage with prospects through all available touchpoints, conducting both face-to-face and virtual sales meetings to understand their needs and negotiate contracts.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail while efficiently prioritizing workload and customer needs, consistently exhibiting exceptional self-motivation and organizational capabilities.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with key decision-makers within the industry.
- Leverage the company’s partner network, locations, growing regions, and unique strengths to develop and service accounts effectively.
- Oversee and administer new accounts, fostering incremental sales by leveraging both existing and emerging products or expanded service offerings.
- Represent the company at industry trade shows, conferences, and networking events as required.
- Stay informed on current trends within the food supply chain, analyze the competitive landscape, and develop and execute strategic tactics to increase the company’s regional and national market share.
Business Development Manager Requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency in enhancing current relationships and establishing new connections with a high degree of effectiveness in building and converting a book of business.
- Demonstrated commitment to consistent and timely follow-up with prospects and clients.
- Skill in identifying the needs of clients and in developing tailored solutions.
- Experience with purchasing and selling fresh food commodities, as well as a solid grasp of distribution, logistics, and pricing methodology.
- Experience working as part of a remote team, with the flexibility to travel when necessary.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite products and familiarity with inventory management software.
- Ability to adapt to flexible working hours as needed
