Job Description

Position Title: Design Engineer

Salary Range: $65,000–$85,000 / Year, DOE

This is an opportunity for a Design Engineer who wants to do more than sit behind a computer all day. You’ll take custom automated material handling equipment from 3D design through hands-on assembly, testing, and refinement, working on unique machines built to grasp, lift, and maneuver everything from engine blocks to boxes and other components within manufacturing environments. You’ll manage multiple projects at different stages, collaborate directly with the shop team and see your designs come to life from concept through completion.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of mechanical design experience, strong 3D modeling skills, and a hands-on mindset. They’re looking for someone collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small, hardworking engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design custom automated material handling machines and tooling using 3D modeling software
  • Manage the full design process from initial computer-based concepts through assembly, testing, and final adjustments
  • Work simultaneously across approximately 3–4 projects in various stages of design and production
  • Spend time on the shop floor assembling equipment, preparing parts, drilling, tapping and supporting other fabrication activities
  • Test completed assemblies and make design modifications or adjustments based on performance
  • Collaborate closely with welders, engineers, and other team members throughout the build process
  • Support tooling and machine assembly for operator-driven material handling systems

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional Design Engineer experience with hands-on 3D mechanical design
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or comparable 3D modeling software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability and willingness to work both at a computer and hands-on in a shop environment
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the flexibility to contribute wherever needed
  • Stable work history and demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering projects

Benefits

  • Medical insurance with 80% of the employee premium covered by the company
  • 401(k) with a 100% company match
  • 3 weeks of PTO to start, increasing to 4 weeks after four years
  • Paid company holidays
  • Employee-paid dental and vision insurance options
  • Annual performance reviews and salary increases
  • Flexibility to work from home when circumstances allow

If you’re an engineer who wants ownership of your designs, enjoys solving new mechanical challenges, and wants to actually build what you create, apply today!
