Job Description
A prominent California-based law firm is seeking a detail-driven Litigation Legal Assistant to join their collaborative team in Costa Mesa. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in managing complex case files, preparing legal documents, maintaining court deadlines, and supporting trial preparation for high-level litigation matters, including real estate, business, and professional liability defense. The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced legal environment, possess strong court filing knowledge, and demonstrate impeccable document handling and calendaring skills. Salary Range: $80,000 – $95,000 / year DOE
Litigation Legal Assistant Responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize case files, pleadings, discovery documents, and trial materials
- Track court deadlines and ensure timely filings in federal, state, and appellate courts
- Draft, format, revise, and proofread legal documents, memos, subpoenas, and correspondence
- Prepare pleadings, tables of contents/authorities, and court submissions
- Manage attorney calendars and schedule hearings, depositions, and client meetings
- File legal documents electronically using court e-filing systems
- Communicate with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel on behalf of attorneys
- Provide administrative support including billing, time entry, supply orders, and correspondence management
Litigation Legal Assistant Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of litigation legal assistant experience
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and appellate court filing procedures
- High proficiency in Microsoft Word (2010 or later), Outlook, and document management systems such as iManage or similar
- Skilled in preparing legal tables (contents and authorities)
- Experience supporting litigation in real estate, business, and professional liability defense
- Familiar with e-filing systems and legal calendaring
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of CompuLaw, Best Authority, CCC Macros, and Adobe Pro is preferred
- Must meet a billable hour requirement of 1,550 annually
